It's hard to believe Christmas has already come and gone. I got some fun new horsey stuff. A pair of pink riding gloves, a new surcingle, a shedding blade, hoof pick and both Pie and Roxy had stockings stuffed with apples, carrots, horse treats and they both got new combs for their mane. Roxy's is pink and Pie's is purple. All of my friends know me well. :) I also took out an orange for Miss Rox since she likes them.
I also got to take Roz on a nice Christmas Eve trail ride with Tarra and Mystic. We enjoyed a nice walk through the forest. :)
Tomorrow, Roxy is 7 months along! It's hard to believe we have already made it that far. Her placenta checked out fine earlier this week and she weighed in at 1235lbs. She *may* be a little on the fat side....but probably not for long.
At 7 months the baby is 9-17lbs, 14-28 inches, and has hair on it's lips, nose, eyelids and tip of tail!
Here are pictures of Miss Rox from early this week.
In other news, the baby's daddy, Quick Silver Bey, is going to be heading down to Scottsdale Arizona in February for a big Arabian Horse Show. This show will be his debut at Prix St. George! We can't wait to hear how he does.
We are chugging right along towards April 19th. I am so looking forward to meeting this little guy! Roxy is doing well and may even be a little bit fat. Oops! Her placenta is being checked tomorrow. We have reached another spot in her pregnancy where foals are commonly slipped. Checking her placenta could give us a head up on any potential problems.
The last week has been super rainy here in Oregon. Roxy was in for a couple of days. Friday I spent some time grooming her and took her over to the arena to stretch her legs. I haven't taken her over there since we decided to give her time off, and bred her. Because of this she hadn't seen the new mirrors that have been put up in the arena. Of course, being the bold girl that she is, she puffed herself right up and trotted on down to check it out. She is such a cutie. She never did roll or even run around. She would trot if I jogged along with her but that was about it. Here are a couple pictures. The quality isn't very good as they were taken on my cell phone.
I hung Roxy's stocking up last week and she promptly tore it down. When I was telling my parents my dad said she just wanted a stocking for her baby too! I put together a stocking for baby today and hung them both back up.
How cute is that? We have been referring to the foal as "Baby Pants" so that is what I put on it's stocking. Also, baby's owner is hoping for a boy so I made sure to get a "boy color" for it's stocking. :)
I got to take Roz, and my dog Annie on a trail ride on Thanksgiving. It was so nice to be able to take them out. A couple years ago I took them all the time. Once I started leasing Roz out I didn't ride him very much and quit taking them out. Annie was SO excited to be go out in the forest with us.
She was totally calm and just laying around until I started putting Roz's bridle on. She obviously knew where I was at in the getting ready process because she started to whine and jump around. We had a nice quiet morning in the woods and brought back a tired pony and puppy. Here are a few pictures I got.
We are over half way there! I am so excited to meet this little guy (or girl) sometime in April. Roxanne continues to grow. We took new pictures again today. At this point baby is between 6 1/2 and 14 1/2 pounds, is 14-24 inches long, and has hair on it's lips, nose, eyelids, and eyebrows.
Once Roxy's pasture mate was turned out today she was running around, bucking and doing flying changes. Apparently baby pants isn't slowing her down too much.
About a month ago I won a $50 gift certificate to Victory Canter on Facebook. I chose to purchase Roxy a new blanket and let Pie have her old one as I was afraid he might rip it. I was exactly right since his blanket is now destroyed. (read more about that at http://caribbeanpirate-pie.blogspot.com/)
Anyway, I got her an adorable pink plaid blanket and then forgot to post pictures. Here it is.
This is like a Christmas countdown, except....BETTER! :) I am so excited to see her beautiful baby. I got a chance to hang out with her on this sunny November day. She is such a goofball most of the time! Loves to hang out with "her people."
Her forelock was super dirty so I ended up taking her into the wash rack so I could clean it up. She was great for that. I clipped her bridle path and her whiskers too. She never minds the clippers and was happy to mouth them while I tried to work. Here are a few pictures of the gorgeous girl today.
Roxy has finally reached 5 months. Actually, today we are at 5 months and 5 days. We took pictures of the pretty girl today so that we can keep track of how much she grows. At this point she looks totally pregnant to me since I knew her before....but I'm not sure what she looks like to everyone else. What do you think?
This spring, mid April
Today-5 months 5 days along
At this stage the baby should weigh anywhere between 6 1/2-11lbs, be 8-14 inches in length, and should have hair on it's lips and eyes.
The rain has started in the Willamette Valley and I pulled out Roxy's rain sheet. I had to let the belly straps out by a good 6 inches to be able to fasten it around her. If you didn't know the mare you wouldn't suspect that she is pregnant but knowing her prior to pregnancy definitely makes you notice her extra size. She has filled out A LOT.
Miss Rox got her 5 month Rhinonuminitus vaccine today. She will get another one in her 7th and 9th months.
Tarra and I also got the chance to hang out with her today. We brought her in tonight and just spent some time hanging out with her. I pulled her blanket off so Tarra could see her baby belly. We then decided to groom her as well. As we were grooming I notcied Roxy had her head resting in her grain bucket with her eyes practically closed. Silly girl! She was really enjoying all the love she was getting. :)
Well....the pretty girl had a swollen hind leg today. She was just fine yesterday. I spent a good amount of time cleaning her up yesterday and she seemed to really enjoy all the attention. 5 month pregnancy pictures will be taken on October 19th. :)
Anyway, back to her leg. There are a couple small puncture marks on her leg so we think she just hurt herself. She got brought in early today and was cold hosed and wrapped. Hopefully she will look better tomorrow. She wasn't at all sore or acting bothered in any way so I think she should be fine. I took a few pictures today when I brought her in.
I've owned Miss Roxy for 2 years today! It's hard to believe where this journey has taken us. She's gone from racehorse, to show horse and friend. Not only that but she is now a beautiful pregnant mare. I can't wait to see her adorable little foal. :)
