Play Day

Roxanne and I had tons of fun playing today. Due to our nasty weather she has had the last couple days inside. I let her out in the arena to play today and she had tons of fun. She started out just trotting around the arena as if I was on her...but once she realized she could play she did. She did lots of cantering around and a little bit of bucking. Do you ever wonder if they actually do understand english? I had one of those moments today. At one point I told her she should probably switch directions and work the other way as well. She promptly made a figure 8 and went the other way. How crazy is that?! Here are some pictures of our goofing off.

Isn't she so pretty?

Spring break is over...

With spring break coming to a close, it will hopefully mark the beginning of regular work for Roxy again. I have been inspired by watching Rainy and Mary the past few weeks and would REALLY like to get to first or second level some day. Here are a few pictures taken last week when we jumped. I forgot they were on the camera. Also a picture of my $5 boots from the expo.

Ready to go. Patience is not really her strong point. lol

This one is a little dark but you can see the dressed up crossrail she was jumping.

And...our new boots. :)

Equine Expo

Today was so much fun! It was busy from start to finish but full of horses and friends. I got up fairly early to take care of all of my ponies and get a couple worked. I had a nice ride on Roxy and I am so happy with how comfortable she is with her new saddle! After my morning at the barn I hurried over to the equine expo taking place in Albany to watch Mary and Rainy in the George Williams demonstration on collection.  It was fun to watch and learn from.

Then the shopping began! Dana and I had great fun looking through all of the booths that were there. I got a great deal on a pair of large pink nunn finer boots. Guess how much!? They are regularly around $40 and I got a pair on clearance for $5 bucks. How crazy is that? That was my deal of the day. A big thank you to Tarra who pointed them out to me.  Besides that I got a new helmet as my schooling helmet is ten years old (bad, I know). Roxy also got a new pink water bucket and horse treats. Overall it was just a great day with gorgeous weather and a lot of fun.

Hanging out with Mary and Rainy before their ride.

Watching mustang makeover with Tarra and Sharon.

Video of our Fun

Today was a beautiful day in the Willamette Valley; sunny and close to 70. It was a perfect start to spring break and an excellent day to haul over to a friends barn to jump. Roxy started off a bit wild and after about 5 minutes I figured I would just be better off to hop off and lunge. Thankfully it took less than 15 minutes for Roxy to realize she wanted to be good. Over fences she started off pretty unsure of where to put her feet and a little rushy. The more we jumped around the better she got. It has been almost a month since I last jumped her so it was totally my fault. She jumped a new "scary" fence today and hardly looked at it! Although she does have some challenging things about her she is super brave and athletic. She is also giving me a lot of nice flying changes with out even being asked. It's pretty weird going from a horse who would rarely do changes to a horse who does them so naturally. Definitely something I could get used to. :)

Once we got home I gave her a bath. It's so nice to clean them up after the winter. She also broke her big water bucket this morning. According to the barn owner she was pawing while waiting to be fed and got her foot it in. The whole thing dumped over towards her and she stomped on it. I guess I know what I am looking for tomorrow at the Equine Expo.

Outside rein and rules

Rox and I had a great lesson tonight. Once again we worked a lot on being straight and having a real connection from my inside leg to outside rein. It's so hard to become a really effective rider but that is my goal. I know I am improving so that is exciting and with Mary's help I will continue to do so. Roxy was a very good girl, and I was told to start having a few more rules with her. This is a dictatorship. :) And I tend to be just a little too nice.  Mary also fed her a few sugar cubes through out that night which Roxy loves. She is always looking for more and loves to stop and "talk" with Mary. Too cute.

Slacking off

The title says it all. I have been slacking off. Not only on my blogging but in my riding too. This is finals week and life has been a little hectic the past few weeks. In some ways I think it has probably been really good for Roxy so we are sure that they residual soreness from her poorly fitting saddle is taken care of.

She is such a sweet mare and I really enjoy my time spent with her. My goal is to begin riding her at LEAST 5 days a week. I have a little bit lighter class load Spring term along with the days being longer and the weather being better. I am really looking foward to the Spring. We should also have a lot to do, between both the dressage and event team, shows, trails rides and hopefully the beach soon too! I just love this time of year.

Happy birthday Rozzy Ridge!

My Rozzy Ridge turns 18 today. Where has the time gone!?! I have known him since he was 11 and we have had several great years together. Roz is one of those horses you only come across once in your lifetime. He has given me so much confidence in our time together. I first got him as a project pony, selling him 8 months later. I kept in touch with the family I sold him to and when they had to move I was able to buy him back.  He came back to me at the perfect time, when I really needed a confidence boost.  We went on trail rides, galloped down the beach, learned to jump, and started to show. With Roz's help I regained my confidence. We started eventing and both loved it. There is nothing Roz enjoys more than running and jumping! Now he is getting the chance to teach another little girl how to ride. They are so cute together and I am lucky to have him! Happy Birthday Roz.

He's now an adorable kids pony.

Great Lesson

Roxy seems to be much more comfortable now with her new saddle and pad. As Mary put it "she didn't threaten violence at all tonight." :) We had a great lesson following up on the stuff that I worked on with Kathy. Everything seemed a bit easier tonight and I worked hard to keep my chin up and my right hand correct.

It came!

Yah! My mattes pad came today. We will see what Roxy thinks of it tonight when I use it.
