Your Rolex Tips & Tricks

I've never been to Rolex (Oregon as not as close to Rolex as many of you) and plan to attend next year. What information can you share? The best seats? What's worth extra money? What's not? What other things should we do in that area?

The live stream was fun but real life will be awesome!

  1. California isn't any closer, you just have to make it happen. If you're going, buy all of your tickets early. Stadium seats sell out well in advance. We bought ours maybe a week after they went on sale and ended up near the back for stadium. I think the preferred parking is well worth the extra $, but others may disagree. I like having the kentucky club tickets (pricy, but totally worth it when it's pouring rain).

  3. Get your hotels EARLY. Like, as soon as they'll let you book them. There's nothing right around the horse park so everything is a short drive, but you'll end up paying a lot or with a really long drive or both the longer you wait.

  4. This was our 3rd year to attend and will go back again next year - Love It! Agree with above - order your tickets online as soon as they go on sale (sell out fast and prices go up the longer you wait). And book your hotel as soon as Rolex dates are released. If you can go all 4 days, Thursday is the best shopping day for the Vendor Village - best deals and selection. We get Dressage seating tickets for Friday and go for the covered section - just in case of rain. Take rain gear! Cross Country is no fun to watch when you are soaked thru - waterproof boots will be your best friend. As far as local restaurants, try to make it to Red State BBQ outside of Georgetown. Looks like a dump, but trust me...delicious and the line to get in will be significant.

  5. What other people have said - book your hotel as early as possible. Buy your tickets as soon as they're available. You'll get a better price AND seat. Do all the planning asap (I planned a trip for 18 of us when my trainer competed). Bring rain gear and waterproof shoes. Pack light to make room for all the things you're going to buy at the trade fair!

    1. We didn't do preferred parking, but my group got there right at the start of each day and didn't have an issue with the walk. Best shopping day is Thursday for sure!

    2. Me too! I'm hoping to go if I can rearrange my midterms that term. Planning is in the works for a group of vet students to go. Blogger meet up would be awesome :)

  7. There is a hotel that almost all of the riders and their grooms/ other top riders stay at. If I go next year I might splurge and stay there.

I think it's very worth it to splurge on stadium seats. Dressage seats I only buy one day so that I can shop the other day. Those I got higher up and really was fine with. I liked our seats in section 210 about mid way up.

I recommend going to any vendors that you want to buy from early in the game so what you want is still available.

Also pack a crazy assortment of attire... It was cold, it rained, and it was hot all in the 4 days.

Happy to answer any other questions if you have them since I've been quite a few times now.

  8. Everyone has great advice but I want to add that you should make sure to try and get stadium seats in the shade. The sun can be seriously brutal when you're sitting there for hours.

  9. I'm looking forward to going to the 2017 World Cup in Omaha with a friend. I have family in nearby Lincoln we can most likely stay with. Excited!

  10. I want to go again since all of you are going! Definitely prepare for rain!! Take a change of clothes on cross country day! If you want to sit at the head of the lake get there super early. It fills up fast! I'm lucky I'm tall because I could see over everyone's heads. Definitely walk the cross country course on show jumping day. It's so much fun climbing on the jumps and getting pictures. They are huge!
