I'm a 20 something girl living in the beautiful state of Oregon. I have a life long love of horses and have been blessed to own a horse since I was 8 years old. My first pony was a 20 year old POA mare named January. I mostly rode her bareback because I couldn't saddle her on my own. At that time we lived on 30 acres and I also had access to the neighbors 60 acres next door. I spent a lot of time riding her around the farm. A girl couldn't have asked for a better pony! To this day my younger brother says all of my horses are POA's- Prisoners of Alanna.

January - the original POA
I spent some time riding in 4-H but at that time I had moved on to an untrained thoroughbred gelding named Cricket. He was a really neat little horse but definitely a little too green to make an ideal 4-H mount. I found a hunter/jumper trainer who lived just across the street from us and began learning some of the finer points of riding english and I learned how to jump. I competed in high school equestrian team and some small hunter/jumper shows.

I moved through a couple of different horses and finally ended up with Roz, the summer after I graduated high school. At that point I have moved to a different barn and started riding with an eventer. It looked like fun so we tried it out. Roz's first time schooling cross country I couldn't believe a horse would jump any of those fences, yet he did. It didn't take long before I was hooked. Eventually I got a second horse, changed barns, and began taking dressage lessons. I have learned a lot about riding in the past several years and look forward to all I will learn in the years to come.

Another part of my story is that I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in the summer of 2012. I was 24. I have no family history and do not fit ANY risk factors. But...that doesn't change the fact that I got it. It's a very overwhelming diagnosis. If you are going through cancer and have questions or want to talk, I'd love to chat with you.

I'd love to hear from you! You can contact me at alannamcp@gmail.com.

  3. I'm not sure why there are multiple comments regarding "prisoner of Alanna." Sorry. I commented from my cell phone. Maybe that has something to do with it?
